AYUSH Department about to conduct Yoga lessons to Tourists

Mysore: The Department of AYUSH will conduct yoga classes at hotels in Mysore city on all 10 days of the Dasara celebrations.

This Dasara, tourists staying in hotels here can get free lessons on yoga in an endeavour to promote the ancient art.

‘Athithi Yoga’, an initiative to spread the knowledge of yoga among domestic and international tourists, has been proposed this year. The Department of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) has come up with the idea of teaching yoga to tourists on all 10 days of the celebrations, starting September 25.

The department is in talks with managements of about 50 to 60 hotels here for holding yoga sessions on their premises. Accordingly, the department has roped in about 70 yoga trainers for the programme. “The idea is to popularise yoga. As tourists visit Mysore for witnessing the festivities, it’s the right time to initiate yoga lessons,” said Minister for Health and Family Welfare U.T. Khader.

Yoga Dasara is organised every year during Dasara festivities to popularise yoga, and mass yoga sessions are conducted in the foreground opposite Balarama Gate of Mysore palace.  Mr. Khader said department officials were in discussion with the proprietors of hotels where yoga sessions can be conducted.
