The initiative aims to promote standardized, evidence-informed and safe clinical practice in the prevention, diagnosis and management of common skin disorders while preserving the diagnostic and therapeutic principles of each system of medicine.
Four Standard Treatment Guideline Documents Published
The Ministry has released separate publications for the following systems of medicine:
- Ayurveda: Standard Treatment Guidelines on Management of Dermatological Disorders in Ayurveda System of Medicine.
- Homoeopathy: Standard Treatment Guidelines on Management of Dermatological Disorders in Homoeopathy System of Medicine.

All four documents have been published by the AYUSH Vertical, Directorate General of Health Services, New Delhi, with June 2026 indicated as the publication date.
Five Major Dermatological Conditions Covered
The Standard Treatment Guidelines address five commonly encountered dermatological conditions:
- Psoriasis
- Dermatitis
- Vitiligo
- Urticaria
- Dermatophytosis
The guidelines provide a structured reference for practitioners managing these conditions within the respective systems of medicine.
Objectives of the Standard Treatment Guidelines
The STGs have been developed to strengthen clinical standardization and quality assurance across AYUSH healthcare services. Their key objectives include:
- Providing standardized, system-specific clinical guidance.
- Supporting appropriate clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Promoting safe and evidence-informed healthcare practices.
- Improving consistency in clinical decision-making and quality assurance.
- Supporting capacity-building among healthcare professionals.
- Providing reference material for academic activities, research and public health administration.
The documents seek to preserve the foundational principles of Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Siddha and Unani while incorporating contemporary scientific evidence and relevant public health considerations.
Collaborative Development and Field Validation
According to the foreword in the publications, the guidelines were developed through a collaborative process involving the AYUSH Research Councils, senior academic specialists from the four systems of medicine and experts from modern medical specialties.
The development process also included field-level validation. The AYUSH Vertical, in collaboration with the Directorate of AYUSH, Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, conducted field testing of the draft protocols. Medical Officers working in primary and secondary healthcare settings provided operational feedback, which was incorporated into the final publications.
This process was intended to improve the practical applicability of the guidelines in routine clinical settings.
Significance for AYUSH Practitioners
The publication is a useful development for AYUSH practitioners, faculty members, postgraduate scholars, researchers and healthcare administrators. The documents can serve as reference materials for clinical practice, teaching, training and future research relating to dermatological disorders.
For medical institutions and AYUSH healthcare facilities, standardised clinical guidance can support quality assurance, consistency in service delivery and the development of clinical protocols appropriate to their respective systems.
Practitioners should consult the guideline relevant to their own system of medicine and apply its recommendations in accordance with their professional scope, patient needs and applicable clinical and referral protocols.
