    Union Budget 2025, Ayush Ministry gets Rs.3992.9 Crore

    On February 1, 2025 (Saturday), Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget 2025, outlining key allocations and policy measures across crucial sectors. With a focus on healthcare, defence, agriculture, maritime, and education, the Budget aims to enhance infrastructure, boost self-reliance, and foster long-term growth.


    Here’s what was announced across Health sector:


    Healthcare: Strengthening accessibility and affordability

    The government has allocated ₹98,311 crore for developing, maintaining and improving the country’s healthcare system, a 9.78% increase from ₹90,958.63 crore in FY25. The government has also allocated ₹2,445 crore for PLI for the pharmaceutical industry. The Budget prioritises expanding medical care and infrastructure.

     

    Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) got an allocation of ₹9,406 crore. The government has allocated ₹4,200 crore for the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PMABHIM).


    The budget allocation for the Ministry of Ayush has been increased to Rs 3,992.90 crore for 2025-26 from Rs 3,497.64 crore (revised estimates) in 2024-25, a 14.15 per cent hike. The National Medicinal Plants Board has been allocated Rs 18.59 crore while the Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy (PCIM&H) has been allocated Rs 21.96 crore.


    The National Medicinal Plants Board undertakes promotional and contractual farming schemes to encourage in-situ conservation and ex-situ cultivation of medicinal plants for providing raw materials of assured quality for manufacturing of ASU&H (Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homeopathy) medicines.


    The autonomous bodies have been allocated Rs 1,965.80 crore, of which Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences has been given Rs 457.20 crore, Central Council for Research in Homeopathy has been given Rs 165 crore, Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine has been given Rs 214.50 crore and All India Institute of Ayurveda has been given Rs 251.20 crore.


    Cancer care expansion: The government will set up 200 daycare cancer centres in district hospitals over the next three years to improve treatment accessibility.

     

    Medical education: The Budget proposes 10,000 new medical seats next year, with 75,000 planned over five years to address the shortage of healthcare professionals.

     

    Medical tourism boost: The ‘Heal in India’ initiative will streamline visa processes for international patients, strengthening India’s position as a global medical hub.


    The government allocated ₹37,226.92 crore crore to the National Health Mission (NHM). The National Tele Mental Health Programme was allocated ₹79.6 crore.


    The Union Budget allocated ₹20,046.07 crore for autonomous bodies. The allocation for All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, was increased to ₹5,200 crore.


    Sitharaman said that in the next year, 10,000 additional seats will be added in medical colleges and hospitals towards the goal of adding 75,000 seats in the next five years.
